This award celebrates Gaelic documentaries examining the intricate relationships and themes between people and places.
This category is open to organisations or cultural/community hubs.
This award recognizes creative license, bravery and innovation.
Judges will be looking for films with a creative style, story or genre or those made with originality in mind. Those who include the competition theme in an exciting, creative way will be considered.
Judges will consider the film overall, including: script, camera, editing, design, directing, acting etc.
The Best Director will be judged on their overall control of the filming process, including actor/contributor performances, cinematography, production values and the overall quality of the film.
Those with a broadcast credit as a producer or director will not be considered for this award but may be considered for the Industry Award.
FilmG is always looking to uncover new on-screen talent and recognise exceptional performances.
This award will be given to the individual that delivers their role convincingly, naturally and consistently throughout the film.
Performers must have a Gaelic speaking role in their film.
This award recognises outstanding individual contributions to a film.
All elements of production will be considered, except those eligible for Best Performance or Best Director which have their own categories.
Evidence will be submitted by filmmakers which will be considered alongside the completed films.
Judges will also have discretion to nominate solely from the quality of the completed film.
This category will consider nominations from contributions including, but not limited to: scripting, voiceover, make-up, costume, design, lighting, direction (by an industry professional), camera, editing, audio production, score, production management.
The FilmG Choice (Open) award will recognise the favourite film in the Open Competition – as voted by you!
A public vote will take place alongside a vote by each filmmaker.
A 50/50 weighting will be given to both elements of the vote.
Filmmakers are unable to vote for their own films.
This award will be for the best overall film in the Open Competition.
We are looking for a film of any genre which is imaginative, original, engaging and entertaining.
To develop a strong culture of writing and content creation, we have a call for scripts from Gaelic writers.
The scripts can be in any genre and should either be associated with a film entered into this year’s competition or have the potential to be developed into a future short film.
Must be an original Gaelic script.
No translations will be accepted.
All FilmG entrants will be considered.
The film by an individual or group of students that is original, convincing, engaging and of a good production quality.
We are looking for good stories, strong performances and good use of Gaelic in any genre.
Open to all further education students enrolled in the 2022/2023 academic year.
