Maighdean-ròin
Marcas Mac an Tuairneir & Alex Nichol
Tha an dàn ‘Maighdean-ròin’ na phàirt de shreath bàrdachd Mharcais, san leabhar aige ‘Dùileach’, far a bheil e a’ suidheachadh caractaran beòil-aithris ann an co-theagsa an là an-diugh. Mar sin, tha sgeulachd na maighdne-ròin, na meatafor de dh’fhòirneart-taighe is a’ bhuaidh a bheir seo air boireannaich air feadh an t-saoghail. San dàn seo, tha a’ mhaighdean-ròin a’ sireadh Là Luain is gum faigh i dòigh teicheadh bhon duine-chèile aige, air a brosnachadh le gainmheach bhuidhe na tràghad is a’ cuimhneachadh air a làithean buidhe – saor bho fhòirneart. Chaidh am film seo a choimiseanadh airson na co-labhairt ‘Hands Across the Sea’ anns An Lanntair, as t-samhradh.
The poem ‘Selkie’ is part of cycle written by Marcas for his collection ‘Dùileach’, where he situates characters from folklore in contemporary contexts. In this way, the story of the selkie is a metaphor for intimate partner violence, something which impacts women around the world. In the poem, the selkie looks to the day that never comes, hoping to escape from her partner, encouraged by the yellow sands of the beach and remembering back to her ‘yellow’ halcyon days. This film was commissioned for the ‘Hands Across the Sea’ conference at An Lanntair, last summer.
