Best Documentary

Prize: £500

We’re looking for a well-researched and well-crafted documentary film, with a good script and strong contributors, which connects with the viewers.

Best Production Design

Prize: £1000

The winner of this award will be the film that demonstrates the most innovative use of resources in the production of the film.

Those who include the competition theme in an exciting, creative way will be considered.

Close attention will be given to specific areas such as: lighting, locations, make-up, costume, props and how everything works together.

Award for Gaelic

Prize: £1000

Gaelic is integral to the competition and this award will recognise the overall quality of a film alongside evidence from filmmakers/tutors/schools on the usage of Gaelic both in front of and behind the camera.

The award will consider films by fluent Gaelic speakers and those who are learning Gaelic, recognising both the efforts and the use of the language.

We are looking for a film of any genre which is imaginative, original, engaging and entertaining.

Best Youth Group

Prize: £500

The award celebrates films made in a group setting such as schools or organisations, recognising the ensemble and the contributions of the group dynamic.

Tutors and schools will offer supplementary information to help judges but the overall quality of the film will also be considered.

This category is not open to entry by individual filmmakers or independent groups.

Rising Star Award

Prize: £500 for the winner + 5x£100 for nominees

This award recognises outstanding individual contributions to a film.

All elements of production will be considered, except for those eligible for Best Performance which has its own category.

Evidence will be submitted by filmmakers / tutors / schools which will be considered alongside the completed films.

This category will consider nominations from contributions including, but not limited to: scripting, voiceover, make-up, costume, design, lighting, direction, camera, editing, audio production, score, production management.

Best Performance (Youth)

Prize: £500

FilmG is always looking to uncover new on-screen talent and to recognise exceptional performances.

This award is for the individual that delivers their role most convincingly, within the context of the script and themes of the film.

Performers must have a Gaelic speaking role in their film.

Best Film (Youth)

Prize: £1000

This award is for the best overall film in the Youth Competition.

We are looking for a film of any genre which is imaginative, original, engaging and entertaining.

FilmG Choice Award (Youth)

Prize: £500

The FilmG Choice (Youth) award will recognise the favourite film in the Youth Competition – as voted by you!

A public vote will take place alongside a vote by each filmmaker or school.

A 50/50 weighting will be given to both elements of the vote.

Filmmakers / schools are unable to vote for their own films (or their school’s / pupil’s other films).

Best Script

Prize: £500

To develop a strong culture of writing and content creation, we have a call for scripts from Gaelic writers.

The scripts can be in any genre and should either be associated with a film entered into this year’s competition or have the potential to be developed into a future short film.

Must be an original Gaelic script.

No translations will be accepted.

All FilmG entrants will be considered.

Best Student Film

Prize: £500

The film by an individual or group of students that is original, convincing, engaging and of a good production quality.

We are looking for good stories, strong performances and good use of Gaelic in any genre.

Open to all further education students enrolled in the 2022/2023 academic year.
